Looking in the wrong skills folder?
[Insert standard disclaimer about proper subforum, searched and did not find, please don't be mean to me, etc.]
A minor thing that can be worked around, but I wondered if anyone else had this happen and if they were able to fix it...
I am set up to run dual accounts... with the two copies of Guild Wars files and everything. This morning when I logged into my main account and tried to load a different build, I noticed that the skills and attributes template subroutine is looking for build files in my other account files... for example, looking in
.../Guild Wars 2/Template/Skills
instead of
.../Guild Wars/Template/Skills.
The Guild Wars 2 skill directory is empty, as I don't use that account for anything except storage and never had a need to put builds over there.
I haven't done anything different, or even started up the second account, since Monday when I loaded a farming build on my main to get a few Traveler things, so it was working properly then. The only thing I can think of that's different is the update(s) this week.
Now... as for what I've done to try to fix it. I looked in my registry and changed the Path and Src to the correct directory... no joy. That's all I could think of to do. Now... I do realize (and have done so until I can figure out how to fix this right) that I can just copy my skill templates into the Guild Wars 2 directory and everything will be hunky dory... but that's not how it SHOULD be working... and I'm all about SHOULD. I will try to reinstall the .dat file when I have some time to let it run... so that might fix it.
Any insight or suggestions would be helpful. Thank you for your time and consideration!
Shana

That's weird.
Haven't a clue, cos I use one of those new-fangled operating systems that puts all user data in the much more sensible location of C:\Users\...
No, I am NOT suggesting you upgrade to Vista/7 - I'm as curious as you as to why this is happening.

Thanks for the reply, Snograt!
As usual, I skip all the easy problems and get something no one has ever heard of. Good thing that doesn't apply to my medical history. *knock on wood*
I am planning on upgrading to Windows 7 here sometime in the next few months. I'm notoriously slow about that... didn't move to XP until only a year ago.
But anyway... thanks again for your reply. If I come across the reason this happened, I'll try to remember to pass it along!

The only thing that comes to mind off-hand, may be only a matter of semantics. But I notice you say "main account" and "second account", but not "main program" (Guild Wars) and "second program" (Guild Wars 2).
That is to say, you can log into either "account" from any GW client on any computer. But the question here is - which instance of the GW client, on your computer, are you logging in with?
I don't use any sort of system to run two accounts at the same time (I only have 1 account atm), so I'm not familiar with how it works. But I'm pretty sure that which "account" you log into is not the same as which version of the client you use to log in with. You should be able to log into your "main account" using either copy of the client, but if you log in to your "main account" using the \guild wars 2\ gw.exe, you will indeed be trying to access the \guild wars 2\ templates folder.
So, bottom line, perhaps the software/method you use to run the GW clients randomly picks which copy of the client to run, or runs the last one again, or alternates between them, or whatever.
